Our Drain Repair Process
To access the damaged section of drainage, our engineers carried out a 4.5-metre excavation downstream of the final inspection chamber. Excavating beyond the collapse allowed us to safely reach sound pipework before beginning the repair.
Once access had been gained, we carefully cut into the drainage line beyond the collapsed section. This enabled us to pump away the wastewater trapped behind the blockage and safely empty the charged drainage system before carrying out the repair work.
Working in this way reduced health and safety risks while allowing the repair to be completed efficiently.
Replacing the Damaged Pipework
With the drainage system safely emptied, we removed the collapsed section of pitch fibre pipe and replaced it with new 110mm PVC underground drainage pipe, providing a strong, durable solution built to last.
The replacement pipework was securely connected using heavy-duty underground Fernco couplings to create watertight joints capable of withstanding long-term use.
To protect the new installation, the pipework was fully surrounded with 10mm pea shingle, providing the correct bedding and helping distribute ground loads evenly. This is an important part of any professional underground drainage installation, reducing stress on the pipe and improving its lifespan.
Finally, the trench was backfilled using MOT Type 1 aggregate, which was mechanically compacted to create a stable base ready for the final tarmac reinstatement.
